Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) began in 1987, with Congress officially designating October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989. DVAM provides an opportunity for everyone to learn about the prevalence and impacts of domestic violence, while coming together to show victims and survivors they are not alone. This DVAM, we invite you to be an ally and help us spread the word!

Candlelight Vigil: Oct. 22, 2025

Join local domestic violence agencies and advocates for an evening of reflection, support, and community as we come together for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This gathering is a space to honor the lives lost to domestic and intimate partner violence, while also celebrating the strength and resilience of survivors. Together, we’ll share moments of remembrance, offer caring support, and spread hope for a safer future.

National Purple Thursday: Oct. 23, 2025

Wear purple on Oct. 23 to honor victims and support survivors of domestic violence. Purple symbolizes survival, courage, and peace. Show off your purple by tagging AVDA on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. #PurpleThursday
