Development Intern

Internship Title: Development Intern     Status/Term: Paid-Intern (In-Office/Remote)/APR 2026 – JAN 2027

Summary
The Development Department plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s sustainability by building strong community relationships and securing the resources needed to achieve its mission. This includes planning and executing fundraising events, cultivating relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations, and securing financial and in-kind donations. In addition, the development team participates in numerous client-facing initiatives throughout the year such as Family Fun Day and the Holiday Gift Program. The Development team often collaborates with marketing and communications to promote events, increase visibility, and strengthen the organization’s brand.

Through strategic planning and relationship-building, the department plays a critical role in ensuring long-term sustainability and impact. The development intern will complete duties as assigned and provides administrative and clerical support for development team.

Responsibilities
Event Planning
Assisting with details surrounding AVDA’s major events throughout the year such as the New Beginnings Luncheon, Family Fun Day, and the Home Safe Home Gala.
Ability to communicate well on the telephone and displays appropriate email etiquette.
Support event planning updates through clerical tasks.
Be present at each fundraising and client-facing event, highly active and participative in duties assigned.

Post-Event
Create a contact list (address/email) of attendees post event, notating if a guest is a new attendee or past supporter.
Helping thank guests from compiled address lists.
Executing tasks related to acknowledging donations from guests.
Create a list of outstanding donation payments that needs attention.
Completing post-event photo duties using address list information.
Ensure photo sponsor is on pictures and print return/guest addresses labels.

Donation Database System
Develop an understanding of the CRM fundraising database system within a non-profit organization.
Assist with data entry, exporting and drafting acknowledgement letters following process and procedures.
Import and accept any data/donations from any sources outside of Raiser’s Edge NXT platform. Then, provide report of data transferred to Development team to review.
Provide clerical support to development staff as needed and help with other tasks and projects as assigned.
Participate in community outreach and fundraising activities as needed.
Be able to support in picking up auction or raffle items for events, and drop off fundraising items as needed.
Provide in-office support at least two days out of the week, flexibility in schedule and hours available for this role.
All additional duties assigned.

General Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certification
Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook
Possession of general office skills, such as word processing, file maintenance, data entry, and business writing
Knowledge of copy machines and other general office equipment
Good telephone skills and clear speaking voice
Good grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills

Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to lift approximately 25 pounds occasionally
Visual and listening skills are essential to successfully process personal and telephone communications where needed.
Must be detail orientated and possess strong concentration abilities
An essential function of this position is reliable transportation.
