In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, AVDA announces the recent addition to its legal team of eight attorneys specializing in family law for victims of domestic violence of Evan B. Boyko, an attorney dedicated to sexual assault cases.
AVDA and Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC) have collaborated to develop and implement a comprehensive legal assistance program for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking. HAWC Legal Advocate Monica Guillen is responsible for providing domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy services for survivors in an effort to promote self-determination and safety. As AVDA’s designated Attorney in the partnership, I am responsible for supporting the legal assistance services program.
Under the OVW Legal Assistance for Victims Program, I provide legal services and representation to HAWC-referred clients of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking. Examples of the types of work that I am responsible for include representation for specific civil legal matters such as orders of protection, custody, visitation, support, and divorce. My responsibilities also include the provision of legal services related to employment law, consumer law, housing law, credit restoration, as well as violations under Title IX of the United States Code.
This partnership further promotes the capacity of each organization to eliminate restrictions and limitations currently in place for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This alliance allows me to serve a far greater population of survivors while also prioritizing and ensuring the safety of survivors of sexual assault.
Evan B. Boyko joined AVDA in January of 2021 as its dedicated Sexual Assault Attorney. This role has enabled Evan to work directly with his clients – victims of sexual assault in Harris County and its surrounding counties.
Prior to joining AVDA, Evan was a dedicated litigator. As a civil litigator, Evan gained extensive experience representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants in personal injury litigation that included claims of products liability and wrongful death. While serving as an Assistant District Attorney with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Evan was fortunate to prosecute a wide range of criminal cases, a great deal of which revolved around family member assaults.
Evan was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended college at Indiana University – Bloomington, where he received his degree in biology. After college, Evan became a cancer research scientist at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, focusing on Experimental Pediatrics related to pediatric leukemia and lymphoma. Following his time as a researcher, Evan decided to return to law school, ultimately graduating from South Texas College of Law Houston.
